I have the honour to acknowledge your letter of the 4th instant, transmitting a letter from Commodore Geo. Digby Morant, R.N., in which he informs me of your remarks, and that the Vice-Admiral Commanding in Chief fully concurs, on my letter of 25th March last, enquiring whether the Admiralty would exchange the Naval Yard on Hongkong Island for a piece of land adjacent to the Naval Yard at Kowloon.

I will forward this correspondence to the Secretary of State for the Colonies, as my suggestion of the exchange in question was made subject to his approval. I am not prepared, however, to recommend that the Colonial Government...
